The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler

The video on The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler is very educationer. I learned that a student can build their own learning network. I also learned why a network student needs a teacher.

I was informed on how a student can go about building his or her own learning network. He or she can search for information using the school data base liberty. He also finds other who have information on his or her topic. He or she can also read blogs. He or she can use their mp3 player that connects them to different universities.

Another educationer concept is why does a networked student needs a teacher. He are she needs a teacher that will teach them to build this network. She offers guidance when they are stuck. She helps them to communicate popularly. She helps them organize that mountain of information.

This Is How We Dream Part 1&2

The video on, "This Is How We Dream Part 1&2" is very interesting.Richard Miller talks about the change of human communication. He works in the departmnet of English, which is my major. He talks about the change of human communication in reference to incremental and fundamental change.

I really enjoyed the way he defined the incrementel change in communication. He shows how we have moved from books to the web. I also liked the way he shows how we can share knowledge by collaberating. He gave his students an assignment that consist of visual and sound components.

I also enjoyed part two of the video. The second part is made up of the fundamental change. When Mr. Miller speaks of fundamental change, he talks in reference to college lectures. He states that this is a way to push ideals into our culture by blogging, using uTune, and down loading lectures. I totally agree with this because our students spend more time on the computer browsing, chanting and playing games.

Using iPods

using ipod
August 2005 Duke University did a experiment on iPods in the classrooms. The students used the iPods for several events. Some used them for advertising. Others used it for recording of speakers on campus. Some used it to record lectures in class for a better grade.

Now Duke has decised to distributed about 1,600 iPods pre-loaded with orientation material to all incoming first-year students. Duke will shift distribution away from an entire class of students and will focus instead on making the devices available to specific courses upon the request of faculty members at all undergraduate levels.

iTunesU

iTunes University can help me as a student. The video shows how iTunesU consist of more then just movies and music. iTunes has different listings of
Universities. Whereas anyone can see what the college has to offer. So as a student you can see what the college specializes in. Whether it is business, education, medical etc.

Also once you click on the University sited, you can also click on the courses. They aslo have auto recordings of classes. As you can see iTunesU has a lot to offer a student in reference to putting the right University that fits your major.

Dr.Alice Christie

Alice Christie
The changing face of literacy can be useful to me as a teacher because the old way of teaching is almost extinct. Going to the library for information is almost a thing of the past. Mrs.Christie points out how hard it is to find information in the library. She also talked about how the old way of the classroom is more teacher centered rather then student centered. Letting my teaching be more student based is the very thing necessary for my students.

The new way of teaching in relation to technology is what's happening. Mrs.Christie pointed out how our future is headed toward computers whether then a finite body of knowledge. Our job as educaters is to help them deal with ideals not just information. She talked about this in reference to the Paradigm Shift. Paradign Shift is based on decision making, risk taking, reading and writing opportunity just to name a few. One thing I have learned about technology, there is a grand opportunity to read and write. This is of great use for my field of education becasue my major is secondary Language Arts.

NPR Podcast on Wikipedia

Virgil Griffith
How and when, if ever, Wikipedia can be a trusted source of information? According to the video on Wikipedia, it can be trusted 90% to 85% of the time. Virgil Griffith invented a Wikipedia Scanner that can trace if someone has tampered with Wikipedia info. So that's one way how we can determine whether or not Wikipedia can be trusted.

When can it be trusted? Only if the scanner device scares the different companies away. In my opinion, Wikipedia in reference to politics and economic issues can never be trusted. I say this because because the government only reveals what they want us to know. And in reference to the economic situations, the different companies only wants to get richer. Tehm becoming richer is for their benefit and the customer.

Can Wikipedia be trusted? I guess my answer would be yes & no. Because it depends on what you are looking for.
