Podcast

Forest
Most of the sites on podcast that I listen to seem to be more like a talk show online for educators. I say this because most of the voices online identified themselves as being a school teacher. So I listen to and browsed several sites in reference to podcast to see where they were going with their conversations. Some talked about setting up podcast in the class. And others talked about real issues that some parents have with the use of the internet in schools.

On SmartBoard Lessons Podcast the topic Teachers Connecting 11: Year End Ideas came up. So I Listen to the host whose name was Ben. He spoke with a teacher by the name of Joan. She was not as advance as Ben was with computers. So he answered a lot of her questions and he also corrected a lot of the wrong ideas that she picked up from others in reference to the know how on computer systems. This site was ok but it was nothing to boast about.

The second site I went to was ConnectLearning. I decide to go to Connect learning with David Warlick. He had several conversations with different people. He had one on the purpoe of an education. He spoke with several teachers at a workshop. One teacher said, "the purpose of an education is for children to find out who they are." Another said, "the purpose is for them to become productive human beings." Another teacher said, "the purpose of an education is for children to know why they are here." This site was the best one yet. I really enjoyed this site the most.

The last site I checked out came from Edtechtalk. Edtechtalk podcast with Miguel, Jeff, and Dave. West talked about how we tell our kids they can't get on the internet any more, because of the things they are saying on them. He emphasized on how we as educator and parents most give directions instead of blocking sites at home and at school. He pointed out how it is good that our children are writing to one another but we as parents should monitor them instead of banning it. This was another site that I enjoyed because it hits home.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson

(CNN) -- The Los Angeles coroner has concluded preliminarily that singer Michael Jackson died of an overdose of propofol, a powerful sedative he was given to help him sleep, according to court documents released Monday.

A search warrant filed in court showed toxicology reports found propofol in Michael Jackson's body.

1 of 3 Los Angeles' coroner Dr. Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran reached that preliminary conclusion after reviewing toxicology results carried out on Jackson's blood, according to a search warrant and affidavit unsealed in Houston, Texas.

The affidavit outlines probable cause for search warrants of the offices of doctors who are believed to have treated Jackson.

The Associated Press is quoting a single law enforcement official, who says the L.A. County Coroner has ruled Michael Jackson's death a homicide. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office told CNN they had "no comment" on the report. An LAPD spokesman says the story did not come from their department.

The 32-page warrant said Dr. Conrad Murray, Jackson's personal physician, told a detective that he had been treating Jackson for insomnia for six weeks. Murray said each night he gave Jackson 50 mg of propofol, also known as Diprivan, diluted with the anesthetic lidocaine via an intravenous drip.

Worried that Jackson may have been becoming addicted to the drug, the Houston cardiologist said he attempted to wean him from it, putting together combinations of other drugs that succeeded in helping Jackson sleep during the two nights prior to his death.

But on June 25, other drugs failed to do the job, as he recounted to detectives in an hour-by-hour account that was detailed by detective Orlando Martinez of the Los Angeles Police Department: Learn more about the events of the night Jackson died »

-- At about 1:30 a.m., Murray gave Jackson 10 mg of Valium.

-- At about 2 a.m., he injected Jackson with 2 mg of the anti-anxiety drug Ativan.

-- At about 3 a.m., Murray then administered 2 mg of the sedative Versed.

-- At about 5 a.m., he administered another 2 mg of Ativan.

-- At about 7:30 a.m., Murray gave Jackson yet another 2 mg of Versed while monitoring him with a device that measured the oxygen saturation of a his blood.

-- At about 10:40 a.m., "after repeated demands/requests from Jackson," Murray administered 25 mg of propofol, the document said.

New Generation Learning

Dock
New Generation Learning video showed how the world is evolving, when it comes to technology. Harry, the kid in the video knew more about computers then me. They no longer used the messy chalk board in the classroom. But the board was computerized. It looke like for recess they played WII games that involved active moving.

In the beginning of the video, it also showed how the mother did not have the ICT in her class when she was coming up. But she still learned how to use the computer system. Harry pointed out how his parents could view his field trips without being there. Harry recommends that all parents push for their kids school to get the ICT for a better learning experience for the new generation.

Harness Your Student's Ditigal Smarts

In the world of technology that we live in, our young people need to be expose to more digital knowledge. Giving them computer activities outside of using pencil and paper is a great ideal. Vicki Davis pointed out how she would give her students some computer terms but she would not tell them the meaning of them. She let them surf for them so they would learn different ways of finding information on the net. She would give them terms like Wiki and terraform.

There was one female in the video. She pointed out how learning more computer skills keeps them connected to the world. The female states, "That they live in a rural area in Georgia." This an example of how having some digital smarts can keep you connected to the world.

The Importance of Creaivity

Cabo
According to Ken Robinson, schools kill creativity. He talks about the life of the producer of Cats and Phathom of the Opera. He states that he spoke with her. And she said, "When she was in school they thought something was wrong with her because she could not be still." They later found out that she was a dancer and not a professor.
Robinson uses this story to point out that we are all diverse. Every one is not a excellence student in the classroom, for some are creativity in other aspect.

In this paticular presentation, it tells us as educator that we should not suppress the creativity of our students. We as educators should help develop and bring out the gifts and creativity that our students have in them, whether it may be a dancer, a professor, teacher, football player, basketball player, etc.

I also thought that the presentation was funny, interesting and also deep. Robinson brought out the point that our children lose their creativity by not being prepared to be wrong. According to Robinson when a person gives an answer that we might think is wrong shows the original essence of their creativity. He used the story of his four year old that was in a nativity play. One of the kids that played one of the kings said "I bring you myrrh." Another four year old said, "I bring you gold." And the last four year old said, "I bring you Frank and them." Instead of the play being so searious it became funny. The young child's creativity side came out naturally.

I really enjoyed this presentation. It help me to see that we as teachers must be watchful when it comes to our students creativity. We should be attentive that we might have the next Shakespeare in our class or the next Micheal Jordan. We should recognize that all our students are brilliant in their own way. So let us not take part in killing their creativity. But let us help them find out who they are.

Did You Know? 3.0

Cali
I watched did you know 3.0 three times. I knew that times were changing but it just hit me like a ton of bricks. I new that there were other countries more advance than us academically. I knew that Americans were not having as many children as our ancestors in the past. I knew that China was over populated and is still out growing USA in the birth arena. I'm not surprised that the Asians are speaking the English Language so fluent. I am shocked in how fast we are changing.

We are changing so fast until technology is taking over. According to did you know 3.0, students that are attending a technical school for four years, after their second year will have to update their studies. Also in this movie facebook, google, and texting are taking over the market audience. In the United States we are ranked #19 in the broadband internet arena. It is predicted that a computer will be invented that far advances the mind of human beings.

So what does it all mean? In my opinion, it means that we must better equip ourselves for the future or set back and do nothing. Set back and do nothing is not the best option. My plan is to continue to educate myself as long as I live. No matter how old we get or how advance times may become. We can always educate ourselves and others. So that we can stop being behind, in the middle, but we as Americans should be at the top.
